Castles & Coasts unveils new homes in South Lakeland

A rural Cumbrian village has received a major boost after 13 much-needed homes became available to local residents.

Created by Castles & Coasts Housing Association, phase two of the Crookfield housing development in Staveley has been built as the housing-provider continues to deliver on its promise to build more affordable homes in rural areas.

Comprising ten affordable homes for rent and shared ownership and three open market sale dormer bungalows, the development has provided a major boost to a number of local families, providing affordable homes for residents who may otherwise have been forced to leave the area due to high private rent levels and a lack of suitable homes.

Built with sustainability and energy efficiency in mind, each of the properties has the benefit of a new build guarantee and all have been subject to occupancy restrictions, with successful applicants having to demonstrate a connection to the locality of Staveley.

Speaking about the development, David Brown, Head of Development at Castles & Coasts Housing Association, said: “We have been delighted by the response to this new development and we’re not surprised that interest was so high. The affordable tenures have been over subscribed, highlighting the pent up demand in this beautiful area."

“We are committed to building high quality homes in the communities we serve because we know that is what people want, and the extension of the Crookfield development is a prime example of this. This is the second scheme of its kind we’ve delivered in Staveley and we’re confident that it will prove a welcome extension to this fabulous village.”

The Crookfield development has also provided a boost to the local supply chain, with Kendal-based housebuilder Russell Armer Ltd building the properties and local estate agent Hackney & Leigh helping bring them to market.

David added: “As a housing association, Castles & Coasts takes great pride in supporting the communities it serves and a key part of this is our commitment to working with local suppliers wherever possible."

“By procuring the services of Russell Armer and Hackney & Leigh, we’ve been able to create and sustain jobs for local people during the construction process; it’s a real win-win for everyone.”
