Cuppas and cakes raised almost £850 for Macmillan

Coffee mornings held at two of Castles & Coasts Housing Association's (CCHA's) independent living schemes in Whitehaven have raised an incredible £846.75 for Macmillan.

One of the events was held at Dickinson Court and was organised jointly with CCHA's Catherine Mill scheme. Residents from both sites attended, along with family and friends. As well as enjoying hot drinks and delicious cakes (pictured), the residents also organised pie and peas, bingo and a tombola, raising an impressive £679.25.

Tony Barrett, Independent Living Team Leader at CCHA, said: “Well done everyone involved in organising the coffee morning. It was really well attended and the feedback from all concerned was very positive.”

Residents at CCHA's Sneckyeat Court also joined in the fun with a Macmillan Coffee Morning at their Whitehaven scheme and raised a fantastic £167.50.

Tony continued: “It’s great to see residents involved in social activities, especially when they’ve also benefitted a charity that’s doing such wonderful work.”

Macmillan's ‘Coffee Morning’ is its biggest fundraising event to support people living with cancer. People all over the UK host their own Coffee Mornings and the money raised is donated to Macmillan. In 2022, over £12 million was raised across the UK.

CCHA manages independent living schemes across the north east and Cumbria. Each scheme features self-contained apartments that offer the over 55s the chance to maintain their independence with the option of joining in the many social activities in the scheme’s communal areas. To find out more about our independent living schemes, please click here or email the team on independentliving@castlesandcoasts.co.uk
