Colleagues from Castles & Coasts Housing Association (CCHA) joined partners to litter pick the length of ‘The Line’ in Workington on 18th April, and are doing it all again on 2nd May!
Organised by Cumbria Police, the litter pick was part of Allerdale Local Focus Hub’s work on the prevention of violence against women and girls.
Work to make The Line a safer place for everyone to enjoy started in January, when overgrown vegetation was cleared. This has made The Line a more open and lighter space, and new signage and the covering of graffiti are the next steps in improving the area.
Lena Johnson, Lettings & Neighbourhoods Team Leader at CCHA, said: “The Line is well known locally, and well used, and we know residents are keen to make it feel safer for everyone the local community to use.
“Thank you to the CCHA colleagues who joined us last week. We really enjoyed joining partner agencies to get stuck into the first of two litter picks, and it was definitely worth it – the whole area was transformed!”
The work to improve ‘The Line’ is supported with Safer Streets funding, after a successful bid to the Home Office from the Office of the Police Fire and Crime Commissioner.
The next litter pick is on 2nd May between 10am and 2pm. Members of the public are welcome to join partner agencies and help tidy up the area, with equipment being provided by Cumberland Council. The full details are on Cumbria Police's website.
