Castles and Coasts Housing Association (CCHA) are pleased to announce the release of four new shared ownership homes on our new development ‘Summerscales’ in the picturesque Lake District village of Gosforth, Cumbria.
Summerscales is the first major development in the village for many years. Once complete, it will provide 20 mixed tenure homes for people that live and work in the local area, helping address local housing need.
The shared ownership units offer a fantastic opportunity to step onto the property ladder. It lets you buy a share of a new home and pay rent on the remaining share. Over time, you can buy more shares, a process known as “staircasing” until you own 80%.
Local occupancy restrictions apply to all homes at Summerscales, ensuring that the homes help sustain the local community. All properties combine contemporary design with local sandstone features to fit in with the surrounding village and Lake District National Park. Part funded by Homes England and built by local contractor Thomas Armstrong, each home incorporates eco-friendly design and materials and inset solar PV panels in the roof. They will have a minimum energy performance rating of B, with many being A rated, helping to reduce both the carbon footprint and living costs for residents.
David Brown, Head of Development at CCHA, said: “Shared ownership at Castles & Coasts makes homeownership more accessible and affordable for everyone. We’re delighted to offer four plots on this high-quality development in Gosforth. This project marks a significant step in addressing local housing need. We hope that the new homes give people with a local connection the opportunity to live in this thriving rural community.”
In addition to these Shared Ownership homes, two plots available for sale on the open market were released last month and were reserved within two weeks. Additional plots, including some available through ‘Rent to Buy’ will be released at a later date.
