Work is well underway to create twenty new energy efficient homes in the village of Gosforth, Cumbria on the western edge of the Lake District National Park.
The scheme by Castles and Coasts Housing Association (CCHA) is the first major house building in the area for over twenty years and will help to solve a shortage of affordable housing for those in local need. It was accepted unanimously by members of the National Park Authority and has been welcomed by Cumberland Council.
The development is part funded by Homes England and the new homes, constructed by a local contractor Thomas Armstrong (Construction) Ltd, will be built to high environmental standards. With an Energy Performance Certificate B or above, all properties will be fitted with solar panels to help reduce their carbon footprint and reduce living costs for residents.
Rob Brittain, CCHA’s Property Services Director, said: “We’re delighted to be able to bring this exciting, high quality new development to Gosforth. I’d like to thank Homes England and Thomas Armstrong for working with us on this scheme, which ensures that local people are given the opportunity to remain in a community in which they have grown up in.”
A mix of tenures aims to suit different needs and will include four homes for outright sale with local occupancy, seven homes available for affordable rent at 80% of the market value, and nine homes available as either Shared Ownership or Rent to Buy. Local occupancy restrictions apply to all plots, giving priority to those with local connections to the area. The properties are due to be completed later this year.
Robert Copeland, Construction Director at Thomas Armstrong Construction said: “It’s a privilege to be working alongside CCHA in delivering these much-needed new homes, and it is great to see a mix of tenures to help open the new home market to local buyers.”
The homes will be added to our website here when they are released.
