Castles & Coasts Housing Association (CCHA) is leading a community clean up event in Harriston village, Aspatria on Tuesday 6th August, from 10am to 3pm. The community day is part of a summer multi-agency programme of ‘Operation Respect’ events, which aim tackle anti-social behaviour.

CCHA is inviting local residents to join and help spruce up Harriston, to tackle fly-tipping and littering in the area. There will be litter picking, two large communal skips and the option to dispose of large/bulky household items** for free, as well as advice on budgeting, housing, crime prevention, health, fire safety, family wellbeing and other issues, free activities and healthy snacks.

Anna Bates, Head of Housing at CCHA, said: “Fly-tipping and litter can really blight a neighbourhood so we’re putting on our rubber gloves and getting stuck into making Harriston village a cleaner community that we can all be proud of. We’re asking residents to join us, and do your bit to make this a cleaner, greener and more attractive place to live and enjoy!

As part of the Local Focus Hub, CCHA is working in partnership with Cumberland Council, Cumbria Police, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, Tivoli and other agencies for the event on 6th August.

Anna continued: “We work really closely with all of the partner agencies in Cumberland Council’s Local Focus Hub and this is one of the key events in the year. We really encourage residents to pitch in and help. You’ll also have the chance to chat to all of the agencies there on the day about any issues in your neighbourhood, so it’s well worth coming along.”

The Local Focus Hub – a problem-solving partnership co-ordinated by Cumberland Council and Cumbria Police – has organised the programme of events, each of which is led by one of the hub’s social housing providers. Other events include:

  • Heysham park, Raffles, Carlisle – July 23
  • Beck Green, Egremont – Jul 31
  • Windsor Road, Westfield, Workington – August 8
  • Mirehouse, Whitehaven – August 21
