Castles & Coasts Housing Association (CCHA) joins the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) to urge people to reduce their risk of house fires. The ask comes during NFCC’s Home Fire Safety Week which runs from 12th to 18th June.
As many households continue to struggle with the cost of living, people may have made changes or bought products which could mean they run the risk of a fire. A few simple checks and changes can help keep homes safer, save lives and reduce injuries.
The week of action is supported by fire and rescue services across the UK and covers a range of areas, such as electrical safety, smoking, the dangers of illegal cigarettes and the offer of home safety fire checks and fire safety advice.
James Allen, CCHA’s Compliance Manager said: “We fully support Home Fire Safety Week as an initiative that raises awareness of simple steps residents can take to make their homes safer. We understand the pressures people are currently facing and affordability is a major factor for many, and there are so many ways residents can easily make their home safer at no expense to themselves, from checking electrical items are safe to avoiding charging devices when they’re asleep.
“We engage with our residents to promote and improve fire safety in our properties, and we carry out electrical safety checks in residents’ homes every five years. These are important to highlight any potential electrical safety issues that could become a fire risk, as well as being a legal requirement. Local fire and rescue services are on hand to offer further advice and support too.”
