Emergency repairs

If you're a Castles & Coasts’ tenant, please don’t worry if you have an emergency repair over the Christmas period. You can still call us even while our offices are closed if it’s an emergency, on 0800 085 1171. Emergencies are problems that mean an immediate risks to your safety, security or health. There are examples of emergency repairs in this section of our website and our normal repairs service starts again on 2nd January 2026.

If you have a gas leak or can smell fumes, call the National Gas Emergency Service straight away on 0800 111 999.

Tips and advice over winter

        Do not turn off pilot lights on boilers and water heaters, unless you’re going away.

        Do not allow drips from overflow pipes or taps. Drips and waste water could freeze in cold weather. All taps should be run and toilets flushed regularly.

        Frozen pipes - if you’re caught out with frozen pipes, turn on taps and thaw pipes out slowly with moderate heat from a hairdryer or by placing a warm water bottle on the pipe (never a naked flame). If this does not work, please call 0800 085 1171

        If there isn’t enough ventilation in your home, condensation can leave pools of water that encourage the growth of mould. These everyday tips should help prevent this from becoming an issue. If you do spot damp or mould in your home, it's important that you let us know, and we’ll look into this for you.

Paying your rent over Christmas

We know Christmas can be a difficult time of year financially, but please don’t struggle alone. Our dedicated Income Team and Financial Inclusion service offers support so you can carry on paying your rent and cover the costs of your essentials without missing payments on other priority bills or getting into debt. Christmas is a time for joy, family gatherings, and celebrations, but it can also bring financial pressure. Unfortunately, this is when loan sharks can strike.

Independent living residents - keeping in touch over Christmas

Over the festive period, colleagues will still be making some morning wellbeing calls to our independent living residents, and we hope that your family and friends will be keeping in touch with you too. 

Don’t forget that you can also use the emergency call system, recently upgraded in your home, if you need urgent help any time of the day or night.
