Completed housing development in Carlisle meeting local housing need

Castles and Coasts Housing Association (CCHA) have taken handover of the final affordable homes on the Story Homes development at Aspen Grange, Carlisle, meeting an urgent need for affordable housing for local residents.

CCHA have purchased a total of 25 new homes at Aspen Grange, which is just two miles from Carlisle city centre, a short distance from junction 44 of the M6 motorway, and close to two major industrial estates in the area, Kingstown Industrial Estate and Kingmoor Park Industrial Estate.

David Brown, Head of Development at CCHA said: “This fantastic development is exactly what is needed in Carlisle so that people who have lived there all their lives can stay in the area and live in a brand-new home that they can afford. Story Homes have been great to deal with and have produced some excellent homes for us.

“All of the new homes have already been snapped up by people with genuine connections to the local area. This shows there is a real need for this kind of development, either for those looking for a rental property they can afford, or those wanting to get onto the property ladder through Shared Ownership.”

Of the 25 homes purchased by CCHA, 18 are properties rented at 80% of the market value, and 7 are Shared Ownership with owners buying a share anywhere between 25% and 75%. All of the properties on the development are graded at EPC level B, meaning high energy efficiency and lower energy use for residents.

Since the development was advertised, the properties have been in extremely high demand with all of the homes being reserved within weeks.

CCHA have ensured the homes are occupied by residents with a local connection to Carlisle, with applicants needing to evidence they currently live in Carlisle or have work or family ties to the area.
